If this card is used for the Xyz Summon of a "Number" monster, it can be treated as a Level 3 or 4 monster. If all monsters you control are WATER (min. 1): You can Special Summon this card from your hand, and if you do, add 1 Level 3, 4, or 5 Fish monster from your Deck to your hand, except "Abyss Shark". For the rest of this turn, you cannot Special Summon monsters, except WATER monsters, also, double the first battle damage inflicted to your opponent this turn by your "Number" monster battling another monster. You can only use this effect of "Abyss Shark" once per turn.
Abyss Shark — Power Evaluation
Final Score: 59 ± 6 · Confidence: Medium

Why it scores here
Abyss Shark is a 1200-ATK Level 5 WATER body that is almost never the point of a deck. Its value is that it can be Special Summoned from hand into a WATER-only board, returns a Level 3-5 Fish from the Deck, and can be Level 3 or 4 for a Number Xyz, so it converts into a searched Fish and a flexible Xyz material. Its 1200 ATK earns nothing, and the once-per-turn WATER-only summon condition and the lock on non-WATER Special Summons cost it points. Deck presence (400 of 400 sampled decks, 35 archetypes) confirms it is a real, portable role, but no combo boards were supplied, so the conversion score rests on card text and deck evidence.
Axis scores
| Axis | Score | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Accessibility | 68 | Run in all 400 sampled decks at 2.47 copies on average, but the hand Special Summon needs an all-WATER field, so the route is conditional (observed deck counts; the WATER gate is verified from text). |
| Combo & Conversion | 45 | Text shows a searched Fish plus a Number-Xyz material route, but no combo boards were supplied, so the conversion is inferred from text alone (inferred). |
| Resource Economy | 55 | The hand summon costs the card and the search returns a Fish, which is roughly card-neutral to slightly positive; there is no graveyard refuel (verified from text, inferred net value). |
| Effect & Interaction | 15 | No negation, removal or hand-trap reach; the lock restricts the player's own Special Summons and only the damage doubling touches the battle (verified from text). |
| Material Utility | 60 | Level 3 or 4 for Number Xyz plus a WATER Fish body is a useful material spread, but the Level-change effect is negated along with the rest of the card (verified from text, inferred for the negated case). |
| Resilience & Flexibility | 40 | Hand-summoned and effect-dependent, so a single negate ends its value; the once-per-turn limit adds fragility (verified from text). |
| Deck-Building Efficiency | 70 | Three copies at a mild restriction that is only an all-WATER field condition, with no garnet or self-lock; it is cheap to run across many WATER decks (observed deck counts, inferred slot cost). |
Calculation
Weight profile: 0.7 Starter + 0.3 Searcher. Intrinsic ≈ 57, Deck ≈ 61, Meta = provisional. Modifiers: none. Final formula: 0.40*Intrinsic + 0.60*Deck
Strengths
- Searches a Level 3-5 Fish from the Deck when summoned from hand, so it converts one card into a second one (verified from text)
- Level 3 or 4 for a Number Xyz makes it a flexible material body across Shark, Ghoti and Number-Xyz builds (verified from text, observed in 400 decks)
- Appears in 400 of 400 sampled decks across 35 archetypes, with high inclusion in several homes (observed)
Weaknesses
- The hand Special Summon requires every monster you control to be WATER, so it is dead on mixed boards (verified from text)
- No interaction at all; the lock restricts your own non-WATER Special Summons (verified from text)
- The Level-change and the summon are both shut off by negation, so the body loses most of its value to a single effect negate (inferred)
- Once per turn; no combo boards were supplied, so the conversion claim is text-based only (verified from text, data gap)
Counters / choke points
- Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring (named in the top partners; it negates the hand activation)
- Mixed or non-WATER boards that make the hand summon unavailable (inferred from the WATER-only condition)
Best use
Level-flex Xyz material and a hand-summoned Fish searcher inside WATER-heavy Number-Xyz builds. Decks: Shark (archetype 842, gameplay 7), Shark (archetype 1818), Ghoti (archetype 1568), K9 (archetype 2178), White Aura (archetype 1633). Suggested copies: 3.
Evidence & gaps
- Verified: Hand Special Summon requires all monsters you control to be WATER (min. 1), once per turn (card text); Searches a Level 3, 4 or 5 Fish monster from the Deck, excluding itself (card text); Counts as Level 3 or 4 for a Number Xyz summon (card text); Non-WATER Special Summons are locked for the turn, and the first battle damage from a Number monster is doubled (card text)
- Observed: Present in 400 of 400 sampled decks at 2.47 copies on average (decks_evidence); Top partners include Number 4: Stealth Kragen (74%) and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring (73.8%) (decks_evidence); Inclusion of 66-100% across 10 archetype/gameplay homes (usage_statistics)
- Inferred: The searched Fish plus Xyz-material route makes the card a starter in practice, though no combo boards confirm it; Negation of the card removes both its summon and its Level change, so the material value is lost with it; Net card advantage is roughly neutral to slightly positive
- Data gaps: no combos supplied; combo conversion is text-only inference no banlist token; assumed 3 copies (unlimited) avg_starter_count_when_present unavailable, so deck resilience is inferred from archetype spread
